Combined Insurance Breaks Military Veteran Recruiting Record and Sets New Three Year Goal

Company also looks to target recent college graduates and Hispanic population

Combined Insurance, a leading provider of individual supplemental accident, disability, health and life insurance products, and an ACE Group company, today announced that it has set a new military veteran hiring record for the company, with 870 new veteran hires for 2013, a gain of more than 60 percent over 2012. The company also announced it has committed to hiring more than 4,000 additional military veterans by the end of 2016 as part of a multi-year overall manpower growth initiative.
In November 2013, Combined Insurance was ranked 6 on G.I. Jobs magazine’s 2014 list of top 100 military friendly employers. This was the company’s third year on the list and the second consecutive year in the top 10. Each year, more than 5,000 eligible companies compete for a spot on the list, which is made up of employers with strong military recruitment programs and meaningful job opportunities for transitioning service members and spouses seeking civilian employment. According to G.I. Jobs, military friendly employers on this year’s list reported hiring more than 117,000 service members and spouses over the last 12 months, averaging 14 percent of total new hires.
"We are extremely pleased with our military recruiting success and will continue to focus on hiring veterans over the next three years," said Peter Leighton, senior vice president of recruiting for Combined Insurance. "Our veteran hires have been tremendous assets to our company and many of those we recently hired have already been promoted to managers. It’s truly been a winning combination for both Combined Insurance and our veteran hires."
As part of its three-year manpower growth initiative, Combined Insurance also plans to more aggressively target recent college graduates and Hispanic job seekers.
According to a 2013 college grad job outlook study by Accenture, a leading global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company, 41 percent of workers who graduated from college in the past two years say they are underemployed and working in jobs that do not require their college degrees.
In addition, U.S. demographic research shows that more than 16 percent of the U.S. population is Hispanic and by 2050, that number is expected to rise to 30 percent.
"Both of these groups have been hit especially hard by the chronic unemployment crisis we’ve experienced over the past few years," says Leighton. "Young people just out of college, even those with business and advanced degrees, have higher unemployment rates than the general population. And in many communities, the Hispanic population has been underserved when it comes to local employment opportunities. We recognize that these groups of job seekers have attributes and skills we look for in successful sales agents and managers. And we know we can offer them the training, benefits and career advancement opportunities that are important to them."
