5m people receive health insurance in Iran

Speaking on the sidelines of his visit to Zahedan in Sistan-Baluchestan province, Mohammad Javad Kabir, the deputy head of Iran Health Insurance Organization for health services, also said there is no precise data on the number of people with no insurance.
"Over 6.3m people have so far been registered by the Heath Insurance System run by the organization," he said, adding that presently 41 million Iranians have access to health insurance.
The official also said providing people with public insurance coverage is among the most important objective pursued by the organization.
He noted that, for example, 120,000 health insurance booklets have been issued in Sistan-Baluchestan province.
Referring to the implementation of Family Physician Plan in rural areas in the past 10 years, Kabir said there is a long road ahead to achieve related standards.
He said thanks to the efforts made by President Hassan Rouhani, Majlis, the health and social welfare ministries, and Health Insurance Organization, the salary of physicians, who participated in the plan, has increased significantly in the current year.
"This will help attract more physicians to vulnerable regions," he said.
Kabir said earlier Iran Health Insurance Organization will provide free dental treatment to villagers for the first time.
The decision is part of a larger effort, named "Basic Healthcare Services for Villagers", which aims to improve healthcare access in rural areas by expanding insurance coverage.
He said four percent of funds allocated to villagers’ healthcare package will be used for dental and mouth care.
"Dental care services, which are expected to be covered by insurance coverage, include fluoride therapy, fluoride varnish treatment, removal of dental plaque, primary repair of teeth, fissure sealants and dental hygiene education," he said.
Kabir said food supplements and nutrients, including iron drops and multivitamin tablets, have also come under insurance coverage for rural residents.
