Pensioners’ union demands improved welfare

By Nike Popoola

The National Union of Pensioners has expressed concerned about the poor conditions of its members.

It stressed that the union would continue to seek for improvement in the welfare of the pensioners.

The Lagos State Chairman, NUP, Mr. Dele Joseph, said this during the commissioning of the new office of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners Federal Civil Service (Lagos State branch).

"Our primary objective is to bring succour to our teeming members who have been left to wallow in pains due to nonpayment of their pension arrears and gratuity. And to this, we have been achieving success." he said.

He said the union would no longer operate under the tree as it used to do, adding that the need to enhance the welfare of the pensioners had prompted the acquisition of a befitting office.

"We cannot afford to see our aged mothers and fathers staying under the tree in an unfriendly atmosphere," he said.

The National President, NUP, Afolayan, also promised the state chapter of the union his support in moving forward.
