NCRIB holds National Conference



……..enlists insurance involvement in disaster management

Insurance involvement in disaster management is to take the centre stage at the 2014 National Insurance Conference to be organised by the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB) in Abuja on Wednesday October 22, 2014.The theme of the Conference is “Disaster Management: Any role for Insurance?”
In a release by Chairman of the Events Organising Committee of the Conference, Mr Sola Tinubu, the Conference which is expected to draw participation from disaster and insurance management institutions in Nigeria and abroad is to further impress the role of insurance industry in disaster management in the country.
According to the release, the insurance industry, which had the professional obligations of risk mitigation, had often been side-lined in disaster management in Nigeria, against practices in other parts of the globe. The Conference could not have been more timely than now considering the chain of combustible events happening all over the world leading to unprecedented losses of human and material assets
It was opined that the Nigerian government would have seen the need to involve insurance practitioners in formulating policies and establishment of institutions to manage disasters and mitigate losses caused to victims
The Conference which would also feature the sub theme: “Insurance Regulation: The Global Perspective” would provide a robust platform for discussing current trends with regards to insurance regulation in Nigeria.
Also, the conference will provide a platform for the NCRIB team led by the council’s President, Mr Ayodapo Shoderu to generate robust discourse on issue that has continued to affect operation insurance professionals in Nigeria.
He stressed that the intention of the choice theme was to allow for ventilation of views and opinions by eminent resourceful professionals and stakeholders drawn from all sectors of the nation’s economy and particularly disaster management institutions.
Dignitaries expected at the conference include, Senate President, David Mark, Minister of Finance,  Mrs NgoziOkonjo-IwealaPresident, Ghana Insurance Brokers Association (GIBA), Nathan AduHonourable Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi ChukwuCommandant General,Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)Dr AdeAbolurinCommissioner for Insurance, Mr Fola Daniel, Director General, National Emergency Management Agency  (NEMA), Muhammad Sani Sidi,  President, Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria (ICAN), Chidi Ajaegbu
Royal Father of the day is Alayeluwa Oba OmosanyaAkinyemiEbi Idena of Idena Remo.
NCRIB is the only recognised body coordinating the affairs of insurance brokers in Nigeria as enshrined in the NCRIB Act.No 21 of 2003.
