Star Miami Beach restaurant owner Barton G. Weiss is suing Lloyd’s of London because, Weiss claims, the world-famous specialty insurer stiffed him.
What happened?
According to court filings both in Miami-Dade Court and in the federal system, Weiss took out an individual disability insurance policy in June 2013.
The policy was to pay Weiss $25,000 a month if he became totally disabled and unable to perform his duties as CEO of Barton G., a restaurant/catering/party-planning company that recently opened a second restaurant in Los Angeles.
The disability payments were to be made for five years, for a maximum total of $1.5 million.
In August 2013, Weiss fell heavily and awkwardly at his galpal’s home on Long Island. According to court papers, Weiss was badly hurt and disabled —but he’s still waiting to get his first check from Lloyd’s.
“Weiss has been totally and continuously unable to perform the substantial and material duties of his regular occupation,” Weiss’ complaint reads.
On Feb. 12, Lloyd’s rescinded the policy and denied coverage. So Weiss sued for breach of contract.
Neither Weiss nor a Lloyd’s attorney in Boca Raton returned calls for comment.
Weiss told Gossip Extra three months after his fall that he became almost totally paralyzed when he suffered a spinal cord injury.
“It was a very upsetting, traumatic experience to be lying there,” he said. “But the good news is I’m responding well to therapy.”
Known for offbeat menus that include lobster pop tarts, Weiss comes up with unique dish presentation that often include smoke and sparklers and a light show.

Intrepid WSVN-Channel 7 reporter Kevin Ozebek is spending his last days in quiet Miami.
He’s quitting the Fox affiliate June 19 to move to Beirut.
Ozebek has been at WSVN since 2010, according to his bio, and he covered the Trayvon Martin shooting as well as the Newtown massacre and Boston Marathon bombing.
Said WSVN VP Alice Jacobs: “Kevin has decided to live the adventure of his dreams and move to Beirut, Lebanon.”
Might as well: Ozebek was vacationing in Beirut in 2012 when he heard a car bomb explode nearby. Of course, he turned on his gear and went to work, and WSVN was happy to claim Ozebek as its special correspondent at the scene.

Rap mogul Bryan “Birdman” Williams is settling some of his IOUs, if you believe Miami-Dade County records.
Williams, co-founder of the Cash Money Records label of Lil Wayne, Drake,Tyga and Nicki Minaj, finally made whole with the construction company that renovated the mansion he bought on Palm Island for $14.5 million.
According to records, the fancy Zankey Construction Corp. cleared a series of liens it had on Williams’ island home since last year.
In all Williams, who’s worth more than $160 million according to Forbes, owed a mere $43,049.35.

Finally, we’re glad we were able to help Miami Heat superstar Dwyane Wade and his actress wife Gabrielle Union clear up some bureaucratic details.
In February, we reported that their marriage wasn’t really official since they had not sent a signed, post-nuptials copy of their marriage license to the Miami-Dade County Clerk of Courts.
The Wades finally sent in their signed license.
