NY insurers propose double-digit ObamaCare rate increases for ’16

to a close and summer officially gets under way, it’s time again for your health-insurance carrier to make you hot under the collar by notifying you of next year’s rate increases.
On Monday, ObamaCare requires insurers to file proposed rate increases with state and federal regulators.
So far, the news isn’t anything remotely like what was promised.
Yes, America, you can officially give up “hope” for that $2,500 savings per family touted back in ’08. That never happened, as we have seen nothing but increases in costs since Year One.
And 2016 looks to be the most obscene rate-raise yet. According to information from the majority of states that made data available, insurers are looking for double-digit increases.
It was a pathetically painful experience to watch the rollout of the Affordable Care Act. In case you don’t remember, a number of states didn’t create exchanges and numerous lawsuits were filed by individuals. A major decision is due from the Supreme Court soon as to whether or not the tax subsidies to states and individuals are even legal.
The new increases for plans sold under the federal health-care law are downright scary all around the country.
Here in New York, Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield, one of the state’s largest health-insurance carriers, insuring 1.6 million New Yorkers in 39 counties, is asking for a 12.8 percent increase for individual policies and a 13.9 percent increase for small-group plans.
UnitedHealthcare’s Oxford, the major provider in NYC, has put in for a 12.5 percent increase on one of its largest offerings, its small-group HMO product.
According to the Millman Medical Index, the cost to cover a typical family of four in America with a preferred-provider plan was $24,671 in 2015, up from an already-too-high $19,393 in 2011.
It’s enough to make you sick
