Capital Express Assurance boss retires into NGO Chuks Udo Okonta The Group Managing Director of Capital Express Group, Anthony Aletor will this week retiree from the insurance industry, and looking to get closer to the under privileged people in the suburb and lower end of the society. With two Non Governmental Organisations (NGO’s), Aletor who is no doubt one of the best life insurers the Nigeria have had, having traversed in the financial services sector, and insurance industry for 21 years, wishes to use part of his life savings to help groom ministers of God for evangelization, and infrastructure development for rural communities. The NGO’s, United Pastoral Foundation and Building to Fish Programme are already running, with multimillion naira infrastructure project currently going on at one of the states in the North. Capital Express Group comprises of Capital Express Assurance Limited, Capital Express Securities Limited and CAPEX Medicare Limited. An insurance administrator of repute and integrity, Aletor has carved a niche for himself through his hard work, dedication and total adherence to professional standards. A native of Igueben town in Edo state Nigeria, his educational sojourn ensued from St. Patrick’s Catholic School, Bacita in Kwara State; to Lagelu Grammar School, Ibadan; to Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo and then The University of Lagos, where he acquired a Bachelor of Science degree in Insurance in the year 1985. He also obtained an MBA from the prestigious University of Ibadan. His working career began with a mandatory National Youth Service at Tonero Douglas & Company from where he moved to Sentinel Assurance Company Limited where he served as the Head of Marketing Unit. Thereafter, he moved to Crusader Insurance Plc, where he served excellently within the marketing department. As a result of his outstanding performance he rose to the position of branch manager and then regional manager in two years. From there, Aletor became Managing Director of UTIB Insurance Brokers Limited in 1991, later that year he became the Managing Director of Capital Express Insurance Company Limited.. During the insurance consolidation era and under his leadership, Capital Express Insurance acquired thirteen life insurance portfolios of other insurance companies and a merger with Regency Insurance life portfolio, thus transforming the company into one of the biggest life assurance companies in Nigeria today. This further culminated in a change of company name to Capital Express Assurance Limited. An astute insurance practitioner and investment analyst, he is also an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers, the Chartered Insurance Institute (London), the Association of Pensions Fund Managers and he has written various research works in the financial field. Aletor sits on the board of various notable companies including Consolidated Hallmark Insurance plc where he holds the position of vice- chairman.
