CONSOLIDATED Hallmark Insurance Plc at the weekend presented awards to the winners at the fourth edition of the yearly essay competition for tertiary institutions in Lagos.
At the presentation, Miss Abiola Atinukeola Gbemisola, of Polytechnic, Ibadan won the first prize and went home with N250,000; Miss Chukwuemeka Nwane-nnaya, from the University of Lagos, came second and won an award of N150,000, while Mr. Olaniyi Beson Opeyene came third with cash award of N100,000. Besides, the first winner gained automatic employment with the company.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive of the company, Eddie Effekoha, speaking at the presentation ceremony, said that the maiden edition of the award which started in 2011, was an initiative of the company to contribute to the awareness campaign of the industry, targeted particularly at the tertiary institutions to educate students that insurance study was a professional career where practitioners can rise to the highest level in the industry and the economy.
He said that the topic for the 2014 entry "The impact of micro-insurance in the socio-economic development of Nigeria", attracted a lot of interest from the higher institutions offering insurance course.
According to him, the monetary reward was deliberately increased to generate more interest among students, and congratulated winners for their brilliance and interest.
