NAICOM reaffirms stand on zero tolerance to claims defaults

The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) has once again reminded the general public on the duties and functions of the Complain Bureau it established to handle issues of claims default by insurance operators.

In a circular the commission said Section 8(a) of the NAICOM Act 1997mandates the National Insurance Commission to establish a Bureau to which complain against any Insurance Institution may be submitted by members of the insuring public and beneficiaries.

It said in view of the above, the General Public is hereby reminded to forward to the Commission any complain of unsettled Insurance claim.

The commission said any policy holder or beneficiary that feels aggrieved by the operations of any Insurance Institution. Brokers and Agents may complain on behalf of their Principal.

On how to complain, it said: “Walk in option: visit NAICOM's Complaints Bureau or any Zonal Office and lay your complain.

“Write a complain to : The Commissioner for Insurance, through Plot 1239 Ladoke Akintola Boulevard, Garki 2 Abuja.

“Fill and submit a complaint form on the Commission ' s website www.naicom.gov.ng/complains, Call the Complaints Bureau contact line on 08172047735 and /or Call NAICOM's Call Center on the following lines: 092919241-4”

It said the letter of complain should contain: Name of complainant/policy holder, phone number, Address and e-mail address of complainant/policy holder, name of Insurance Institution being complained against, nature of complain, type of policy with policy number and claim number and amount of claim.

The commission also said the services rendered by the Complaints Bureau of NAICOM are free of charge.
