Africa Re highlights importance of capacity building to reinsurance business

Africa Re has reiterated the strategic importance of training and capacity building as vital tools for business success especially in the reinsurance sector.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of a 3-day intensive training organised in collaboration with the National Insurance Commission of Ghana for top consultants, reinsurance directors and managers, technical directors, managers and senior underwriters in insurance and reinsurance practices, African Reinsurance Corporation, (Africa Re) Regional Director, West Africa, Sory Diomande emphasized the importance of quality and specialised trainings towards the overall success of business especially the insurance sector and reinsurance across Africa.
He pointed out that “in the new world order and in the present knowledge economy, insurance and reinsurance professionals must remain at the cutting edge of learning and be intellectually equipped to deliver world class professional services.”
The Commissioner of the Ghanaian National Insurance Commission Mrs Lydia Bawa, commended Africa Re for their consistency in capacity development. She noted that the Corporation’s history started somehow in Ghana, the first GMD/CEO,  Eward Mensah being Ghanaian as well.
She noted that organising such a high level training for the West Africa region confirmed the firm’s commitment to the Ghanaian market, and also the fulfilment of its mission of developing the Insurance and Reinsurance industry in Africa.
The intensive training focused on advanced liability, claims management and reinsurance. The facilitators were Africa Re’s Regional Director, Sory Diomande who has gained experience in different parts of the world, namely South Africa, France and Singapore, and Alain Ravoaja, a graduate of Law Studies.
