Nearly half of Americans believe Obama lied about health insurance cancellations

Obama

According to a Qunnipiac University poll that was released on Tuesday, nearly half of Americans, 46 percent, believe that Pres. Obama "knowingly deceived" Americans when he promised that those who already have health insurance could keep it under the Affordable Care Act, which has proven to be untrue for millions of people.

While 46 percent say that Obama knowingly deceived the country, the majority do not believe this; however, the majority is only one percent higher, at 47 percent.

The poll also found that a majority of Americans, 55 percent, oppose the Affordable Care Act, while only 39 percent support it. Another 73 percent want to see the March 31, 2014 coverage sign up deadline extended.

In the years leading up to the implementation of Obamacare, Obama promised multiple times that Americans would not lose their health insurance if they purchased it before the act went into effect, but that has proven to be false. According to a report in Forbes yesterday, 4.8 million Americans have received notices that their insurance plans are being canceled, with more expected to occur in the near future. Others have seen a drastic increase in the price of their monthly premiums.

While this is occurring, only a small number of Americans have been able to even enroll in a plan on HealthCare.gov, the website for signing up for health insurance under Obamacare. The Department of Health and Human Services has reported that only 26,794 people have signed up for the federal exchange, and 79,391 for a state exchange system. This means that only 106,185 Americans have successfully signed up after more than a month.

It's no wonder then that Qunnipiac found that Obama's overall approval rating has dropped to new lows. According to the poll, 54 percent of Americans disapprove of the president's job performance, while only 39 percent approve.
