If the recommendations reached at the Chief
Information Officers (CIO) conference scales through, the Nigerian Insurance
Industry Database project will soon be promoted to Regional Insurance Industry
Database (RIID) across West Africa.
Inspen gathered that Chief Information
Officers (CIO) at their conference in Ghana reached that the step should be
taken to forestall unnecessary duplication of infrastructure by other regional
stakeholders in creating their own platforms or re-inventing the wheel.
According to the offices, the promotion
will further enhance the collaborative efforts in checking genuineness of
insurance policies; reduce fake insurance papers and increase regional drive
while building regional database.
Industry observers believe the
promotion will also improve the Insurance brown card initiative designed to promote trade and cultural integration among the countries in the West
African sub region and also develop international links and exchange as well as
the extension of the insurance market within the sub region.
According
to the Secretary General Nigerian
National Bureau, ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme, Mrs Henrietta N. Anyanna, a lot
of people, presently do not know where to procure the document, hence they fall
into the hands of fraudsters from whom they collect fake certificate and end up
being caught and sent to jail in neighboring countries
“In
the Nigerian Market for instance, Brown Card Premium Income has sky- rocketed
from =N=3.5m in 2010 to =N=8.5m in 2012 and about =N=10m in 2013. Other member
States have recorded significant rise in Premium Income figures thereby enhancing
the liquidity and increased the capacity of the National Bureaux to meet their
financial obligations,” she said.
