Stanbic IBTC Pension Managers Limited, a subsidiary of
Stanbic IBTC Holdings, has donated 2,500 crash helmets to commercial
motorcyclists in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The leading Pension Fund Administrator (PFA) pledged to
collaborate with relevant stakeholders to improve road safety in Nigeria.
The crash helmets were formally received by
the Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, on behalf of the Oyo State
Security Trust Fund, for onward distribution to members of the Amalgamated
Commercial Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association (ACOMORAN), Oyo State.
The initiative, according to the Executive
Director, Stanbic IBTC Pension Managers Limited, Eric Fajemisin, is in line
with the existing partnership with the Oyo State government and the PFA’s
commitment to value-driven corporate social responsibility, designed to make
positive impact on the wellbeing of the communities where it operates.
“One of the key objectives underscoring this
gesture is to leverage our partnership with the state government to promote
safe riding, encourage good road behaviour and build an ecosystem that supports
road safety in the country. In so doing, we hope to mitigate the fatalities
associated with motorcycle accidents on the operators and their passengers as
well as the trauma, deprivation and loss these inflict on everyone affected,”
Fajemisin said.
He said Stanbic IBTC Pension Managers aligns
itself with the quest of the Oyo State government on the welfare of its
citizens and the Federal Road Safety Commission’s regulation on the compulsory
use of crash helmets by commercial motorcyclists across the country.
“It is a privilege to partner with the
Government of Oyo State in the preservation of the welfare of its citizens. In
the past, we have donated over 5,000 safety helmets in Lagos, Osun, and Ekiti
states and are therefore delighted to extend our hands of partnership and
commitment to this administration by contributing towards the socio economic
activities of Oyo State through the provision of safety helmets to Oyo
citizens.
Akin to its functions as a pension fund
manager, Fajemisin said the donation reinforces the PFA’s mandate of securing
and safe-guarding the future of Nigerians after retirement through its well
structured pension and retirement services. “Safety is one of our core services
as a pension fund administrator and we manage pension and retirement funds in
ways that ensure their safety.”
Governor Ajimobi, who received the helmets on
behalf of the Oyo State Security Trust Fund, commended Stanbic IBTC Pension
Managers Limited for launching the initiative, which he described as exemplary
and the first of its kind by a corporate organisation in the state.
He enjoined the motorcyclists to always use
the crash helmets, obey speed limits and traffic rules to ensure their safety
and that of their passengers.
President of ACOMORAN, Ibrahim Adewale,
expressed the association’s gratitude for Stanbic IBTC Pension Managers’
gesture even as he assured that safety will continue to be the association’s
watchword.
In his closing remarks at the event,
Fajemisin encouraged the motorcyclists to embrace the new pension scheme to
guarantee a secured retirement. He said Stanbic IBTC Pension Managers is
available round the clock to help them plan for a comfortable future when they
are no longer actively employed. “Stanbic IBTC Pension Managers Limited offers
quality services and is committed to providing a safe investment haven and a
good retirement plan,” Fajemisin said.
