CIIN donates books to schools in Edo
State

Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole,
today called on insurance operators to instill discipline among themselves, and
raise public confidence to better their performance.
The Governor who was represented by
the Commissioner for Finance, John Enegbedion, said this at the Annual
Education Seminar in Benin City Edo State.
He urged insurers to tackle challenges
that have been hindering growth and development of the industry by living up to
their responsibilities, especially in prompt claims settlement. He added that
there are a lot of benefits to be derive when the operators build public confidence.
The Governor said insurance practice should
be properly done as it remains the best way to mitigate risks which is common
to everybody.
He urged insurers to tackle the issue
of quacks and fake insurance which have made caused much public distrust on
their operations.
He said the state government will
continue to partner insurers in mitigating the risks that ought to be suffered
by the people.
The Commissioner for Insurance Fola
Daniel, represented by Deputy Director
Authorisation and Policy National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), Akah Leo,
urged insurers to evolve better channels for insurance distribution, adding
that the Commission will continue to find new ways of moving the industry
forward.
He told the
operators to educate the public on the benefits of the products they sell and
develop products that appeal to everyday needs of the people.
Daniel said the
commission has continued to partner relevant agencies to promote insurance,
stressing that the NAICOM will continue to support necessary measures that will
enhance the industry’s performance.
Managing Director
Riskguard-Africa Nigeria Limited Yemi Soladoye, who presented the Theme Paper:
Maximizing Channels of Distribution for Insurance Penetration, urged the
operators to evolve new channel contrary to the channels presently used to distribute
insurance products.
He told them to eliminate
unnecessary overheads by collaborating with other sectors to maximise the
enormous insurance benefits in the country.

President CIIN
Bola Temowo said the institute will continue to chart ways of bring insurance
close to the people, stressing that no effort can be too much in the collective
quest for increased Insurance consciousness.
He urged
operators to rethink their activities, adding that the seminar is a call for
all hands to be on deck in the actualisation of the awareness campaign.
He also used the occasion to donate
600 copies of Insurance Textbooks written by the Institute to schools in the
state.
