MetLife - one of the region's leading insurance companies and a global provider of insurance, annuities and employee benefit programs - was the winner of the Life Insurance Company of the Year Award at the first Middle East Insurance Industry Awards (MIIA), organized by Middle East Insurance Review along with Dubai International Financial Centre.
The awards, which were established to recognise excellence within the regional industry, attracted 200 entries from across the region, and were presented at a ceremony held on November 17th, in Dubai.
MetLife's award comes as the company continues to rebrand its operations in the region to the unified MetLife brand, having operated as MetLife Alico following the acquisition of Alico in 2010. The rebranding reflects MetLife's global expertise and brand strength.
The citation for the MetLife MIIA award stated: "Putting customers first, embracing best standards, making things easier and succeeding together are the values behind MetLife's Life Insurance Company of the Year Award".
Julio Garcia-Villalon, Regional Head of MetLife Middle East & Africa, who received the award at the gala event, said: "MetLife has been a pioneer of life insurance in the Middle East & Africa since 1953 and we are delighted to achieve this recognition, which validates our strategy of maintaining our leadership position in the region and continuing to provide market-leading services and solutions whilst reinforcing our commitment to the Middle East & Africa. On behalf of MetLife, I would like to thank all our customers, partners and employees for making this award possible."
MetLife in the Middle East
MetLife opened its first branch in Lebanon in 1953, followed by Saudi Arabia and Kuwait in 1954, Jordan in 1958, Bahrain in 1960, UAE and Qatar in 1962, Oman in 1971, Turkey in 1988 and Egypt in 1997. MetLife was the first insurance company to operate in many of the Middle East countries, offering marketing leading products and service innovations.
Customer focus, in-depth market research and innovation, training and development to high professional standards, have been the hallmarks of the company's approach in the region, since the beginning.
MetLife provides market research and best practices from around the world. The Employee Benefit Trends Study (EBTS) is considered to be one of the most comprehensive employee benefits studies of its kind. It has been conducted in the US for 12 years and at various times in seven other countries - and for the first time in the UAE, in 2014. The company presented the UAE study findings at a special event hosted by a team of senior MetLife executives for an invited group of employers and insurance brokers in Dubai, on November 12th (download the study at www.metlife.ae).
The Middle East Insurance Industry Awards (MIIA) judging process and results were audited by independent auditor Ernst & Young. The judging panel comprised 25 domestic, regional and international leaders in the insurance industry. There were some 200 entries for the first MIIA.
