By year's end, 17,500 employees from at least 21 Capital Region companies will be buying health insurance in a new way.
Rose & Kiernan in East Greenbush is running a private marketplace in which four insurers (more are on the way) are vying for more policies.
It's the same premise as the government-run exchanges, created by the federal Affordable Care Act, which have been in national headlines for months.
But Rose & Kiernan's version offers a crucial twist for bigger employers.
It enables them to put down a "defined contribution" toward insurance - sparking the same widescale shift that happened.
