Regarding Rep. Paul Wieland’s suit to opt out of coverage that includes contraceptives, because it is not in keeping with his personal faith, I ask you this: May I opt out of paying taxes that will fund wars that I do not believe in? May I opt out of paying the salaries (and pensions, benefits, etc.) of those congressmen and senators whose views I find abhorrent?
Mr. Wieland's attorney likens this onerous burden to sending your child to a college where the only cable TV package includes a pornographic station. How about this, as an alternative: Don’t watch the porn.
Oh, wait; that would imply that they could simply not use contraception if they don’t believe in it.
My health care plan covers organ transplants, hip replacements and prosthetic limbs, but I’m not planning to use any of those aspects of my plan. It’s not required.
