Insurer's Northern Ireland storms bill to be over £2m

Rural insurer NFU Mutual has said it may have to pay out £2.12m worth of claims in Northern Ireland after December's weather.
More than 200 claims have been received by the firm here.
Meanwhile, the storms over the UK as a whole are expected to cost £40m or more.
NFU Mutual, which insures over 70% of UK farmers and thousands of rural homes and businesses, said the south east and south west of England were hardest hit, followed by north east England.
"It's too early to put an accurate figure on the cost of settling claims because we don't yet know the full cost of repairs – and we suspect some claims for minor damage may not yet have been reported," rural affairs spokesman Tim Price said.
"It's very unusual to have a month with such prolonged stormy weather as December 2013, but the overall claims bill won't be as high as that for the heavy snow and low temperatures which struck Scotland and northern England in 2010 – or the devastating floods which hit England in 2007."
