Senator sues to stop federal payments for Congress members’ insurance




Republican Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin is challenging a September ruling that lawmakers and their staffs should continue to get about 75% of their medical insurance premiums paid after obtaining coverage through the new health care law's state exchanges.















 



A Republican senator sued Monday to stop the government from paying most of the medical insurance premiums for members of Congress who are now required to obtain coverage through the new health care law’s state exchanges.


Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) sued in U.S. District Court, challenging a September ruling by the Office of Personnel Management that lawmakers and their staffs should continue to get about 75% of their premium costs paid after leaving the insurance program for federal workers.
