Nseobong Akapbio, an Assistant Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has warned applicants for driver's licence against patronising fake insurance companies.
Akpabio gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Eket.
He warned that those that patronise such fake establishments would not be compensated in the event of any road crash, and stand the risk of prosecution.
"On our website, you can automatically generate information on genuine insurance companies approved by national insurance commission.
"So, if you patronise these touts who are going about with documents of A,Y,Z insurance companies without fixed addresses, you will not be compensated in the event of any crash," he said.
Akpabio, who is the Commanding Officer of Zone 5, comprising Edo, Delta and Anambra States, warned that motorists that patronise touts would be arrested and prosecuted.
"Applicants are advised not to patronise touts; you can apply for your driver's licence at the comfort of your home.
"All you need do is to hook on to FRSC Website and follow the instructions," he said.
He said that the drivers' licence processing centres in Uyo, Ikot Ekpene and Eket would be upgraded to meet current demands.
Akpabio said that the state government had also requested for five additional centres.
"We are going to train motor licencing officials in the state in March so that they can enhance service delivery," he said.
On new vehicle number plate, Akpabio said that it had been designed to provide information on vehicle owners and not necessarily the vehicle itself.
"If you want to get a number plate, you have to show the evidence of purchase of the vehicles, whether you want to renew it, replace it or get a fresh one," he said.
He therefore advised applicants for new number plates to endeavour to provide the complete information required by the commission. (NAN)
