The Hindu

Two cheats were arrested for their alleged involvement in duping hundreds of people on the pretext of providing insurance policies and tour packages with attractive offers, the Crime Branch said on Sunday.
As many as 132 cheques amounting to crores of rupees collected by the duo, identified as Asif Kamal (27) and Kuldeep Kumar (19), have been recovered from their possession, said Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime).
The Crime Branch was informed that the accused duo would promise insurance policies and tour packages on very attractive rates seeking payment through cheques in different names through couriers. Once received, the men would get these cheques realised, change their correspondence address, and flee. Though the accused had given an address at Bhikaji Cama Palace to receive couriers, they were operating from Laxmi Nagar where they had set up a call centre.
“ During interrogation, the duo revealed that they had specially set up the centre for the racket and employed several girls as telecallers,” Mr. Yadav said. The police claimed the duo took special care to target only those potential customers whose insurance policies had lapsed.
