By Emeka Anuforo, AbujaGOING by information released by government Thursday, 24 million pupils are expected to be rolled into the National Health Insurance Scheme by the end of the year.
Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Dr Femi Thomas, said in Abuja Thursday that the pupils' enrollment would be implemented in full across states of the federation by December.
He said coverage of the children was part of decisions reached at the Presidential Summit on Universal Health Coverage for Nigerians which took place in Abuja in March this year.
Thomas emphasized that the package for the children was one of the strategies being developed by the scheme towards timely attainment of universal health coverage in the country, which still remains at a digit percent of national coverage.
The plan projects that the Federal Government funds the programme alone in its first year, while states would thereafter contribute 60 per cent and the Federal Government pay the remaining 40 per cent.
