85,000 benefit from Kwara Health Insurance Scheme

imageNo fewer than 85,000 rural dwellers have benefited from the Kwara Community Health Insurance Scheme (CHIS) from 2007 to date.
Alhaji Oba Sulyman, Special Assistant to the governor on Community Health Insurance Scheme, disclosed this on Friday in Ilorin while fielding questions from newsmen on CHIS.
He said that the five-year renewable scheme, being supported by international development partner, was targeted to cover 600,000 beneficiaries by 2022, if the programme was renewed.
Sulyman added that the current five-year term, renewed in 2012, was expected to terminate in 2017.
The aide described the Organisation for Economic and Development Award on CHIS, given to Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed in Paris, France, as well deserved.
He said that the governor was focused and determined to improve the welfare of the people in the state.
“The State Government has done a lot in making health care delivery accessible, affordable and available for the people in the state especially the rural dwellers.
“The government aims to strengthen the health care delivery system of the state through community health insurance scheme,” he said.
Oba said that the programme was the first of its kind in the country, adding that the achievement recorded had attracted Kaduna and Ogun states to visit Kwara to understudy the programme.
He, however, called on the people to complement government’s efforts in the implementation of the programme to ensure more success. (NAN)
