Insurance company manager, surveyor convicted for fraud


VISAKHAPATNAM: The second additional special judge for CBI cases in Vizag, N Ananda Rao, convicted two persons, including a branch manager of United India Insurance Company Limited (UIICL) at Mandapeta in East Godavari, Chinta Chakrapani, and an insurance surveyor, KNS Satyanarayana. 

They were sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 2.10 lakh each. Chakrapani was convicted for fraudulently settling 14 false insurance claims. Both the accused processed the claims with forged documents. 

The fraud took place in 2003-04 when Chakrapani was the manager at the UIICL branch. He entered into a criminal conspiracy with Satyanarayana and rice millers to cheat the company in settling false marine cargo claims on rice bags which were transported from Dwarapudi, Bikkavolu, Palakol and Kakinada port. The duo was sent to Central Prison.
