The Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) academics syllabus that is at the final stage of consideration and ratification by its council will cover emerging risks like kidnapping, terrorism and more Inspen has learnt.

The President CIIN Bola Temowo, who disclosed this in Lagos, said the council has remained irrevocably committed to enhancing the knowledge base of the industry's practitioners  through regular review of the institute's syllabus.

He noted that the syllabus review has always taken cognizance of the industry dynamics and the realities of global standards in human capital needs, adding that the challenges confronting the industry today require a renewed approach and depth in insurance education to equip practitioners adequately for the tasks before them.

He said the institute will continue to exercise its statutory responsibilities  as enshrined in Decree No 22 (Now Act) of 1993, stressing that a major provision of the statute is the responsibility to continually determine the skill and knowledge required by persons seeking to become registered members of the insurance profession.

"The importance of the statutory provision cannot be over emphasized, especially in respect of its intent and purpose of stipulating the maintenance of a register of members and ensuring that practitioners dispense with insurance services effectively and ethically," he said.
