The era where the different arms of the insurance industry organise separate conferences, seems to be over, as the operators have unanimously subscribed to a single confab where they will chart a way forward for the sector.

To this end, the operators through the Insurance Industry Consultative Committee (IICC) have resolved to organise the maiden edition of the mega conference by June next year.

The president Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) and the Chairman of the IICC, Bola Temowo, disclosed this at the CIIN’s 2014 graduation ceremony in Lagos. He noted that the IICC had ratified the mega conference, adding that the resolution has put to an end of separate conferences by the various arms of the industry.

He noted that the unity of the arms of the industry will continue to be non-negotiable, adding that this is not only desirable but necessary for the progress and development of the industry.

“The unity of the arms of the insurance industry will continue to be non-negotiable. This is not only desirable, but necessary for the progress and development of our industry and right positioning in the national economy.

“The Insurance industry consultative council which was established in 2013 is forging ahead with its mandate of representing a common voice for our industry and that of resolving all intra-industry disputes without allowing them degenerate. I am pleased to state that the IICC was able to demonstrate its might with regards to the recent challenge which threatened our unity and common purpose as an industry. This hugely demonstrated role in conflict resolution will remain a reference point and a tonic for our continued bonding.”

It would be recalled that the IICC helped resolved the impasse that was to be created by the bill for autonomy and chartered sent to the National Assembly by the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB).
