The Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has started identifying new defaulting companies which have not deposited their contribution for more than six months and has been able to identify 25 defaulters so far. The corporation will start issuing show cause notices in the first week of May.
There are 180 defaulting companies in Nashik against which the ESIC has already filed cases with the court of the judicial magistrate (first class).
Speaking to TOI, R K Choudhary, joint director, sub-regional office of Nashik, ESIC, said, "We are in the process of identifying the defaulting companies which have not deposited their contribution for six months and more. It will take couple of weeks to identify all the defaulters and we will start issuing notices from the first week of May."
As per the Employees' State Insurance (ESI) Act, factories which have more than 10 workers and workers with salaries less than Rs 15,000 a month are entitled to get registered with the ESIC. Around 4,000 employers (factories) with a total 1.08 lakh workers have been registered or insured in Nashik district with the ESIC till date and are getting benefits of the ESI schemes. While the employer has to contribute 4.75% of the total salary of the employee, the employee's contribution is 1.75% of the salary.
"Cases agaist 180 defaulting companies are already pending with the magistrate court for the past two-three years. We have also introduced an amnesty scheme for such companies, according to which, the cases against defaulting companies shall be withdrawn if the companies concerned deposit their dues along with the interests," Chaudhary explained.
The ESIC provides medical services to insured workers and their dependents through the state government-run ESIS hospital and dispensaries. There is one ESIS hospital located in Satpur and five dispensaries in the city.
