An insurance agent is under investigation by the State. The Texas Department of Insurance has received some complaints against Christopher Lee Garcia, and the fraud division is handling the case.
There's really two sides to this story. One one side you have possible victims who tell KRIS 6 News they paid for insurance policies they never got.
On the other side, you have an insurance agent who says it was all just an honest mistake.
In October, Fabian Molina Jr., of Molina Plumbing, says he bought over $1,000 worth of insurance from Garcia.
At the time, Garcia was a Famers Insurance Agent working out of a building on South Staples Street.
Molina says he paid for several policies, covering multiple properties he owns.
He thought everything was fine until he was denied a bank loan in January. The bank told him it was because he wasn't insured.
And when he called the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association, they told him he didn't have a policy.
Other clients of Garcia's tell KRIS 6 News similar stories. They paid Garcia for policies, only to find out they weren't insured.
We reached Garcia over the phone, who admits there were a number of windstorm policies that were paid for, but never forwarded to T.W.I.A.
Garcia says it was a clerical error. He says an employee in his office was supposed to forward the policies, but never did.
Garcia says when he found out, he repaid all of those clients, in total, about $7,000 worth of policies that were never registered.
Fabian Molina Jr. tells us Garcia has paid him back for the windstorm policies, but still owes him almost $1,000 for fire insurance policies he says never kicked in.
Garcia no longer works for Farmers Insurance.
Once it's investigation is done, the State will determine if anything happens to his license.
