Insurance operators having been left out among the delegates to the
on-going National Conference, have resolved to channel their contributions through
the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN),
Inspen can report.
Director-General Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) Kola Ahmed,
in a telephone interview, said the opportunity to channel the industry’s
contributions was provided by the President
of the CIBN, who took the decision to bring other bodies in the financial sector
that were not nominated to the conference.
He noted that in a bid to get the
contributions of those left out, the CIBN President set-up a think tank in the
Institute’s Lagos office, were those not nominated has to channel what they
want to be discussed at the conference.
“We have held three meetings on the
platform of the think tank, were we made input to the deliberations at the
conference through tele-conferencing. Our inputs have been incorporated into
the resolutions of the confab’s committee considering financial matters.
“More so, the Nigerian Insurers Association
(NIA), CIIN and Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB) met to
produce a memorandum which we have also submitted to the conference, in
response to the advert made by the conference.
Another source said the decision was
taken to ensure insurance is not totally left out as efforts are being made to
reposition the economy.
Insurers had earlier expressed misgivings over their
exclusion from the confab, stressing that issues in the economy cannot be
effectively discussed, without considering risk implications and management
which they are better positioned to talk about.
