The insurance industry in Nigeria will attain its desired
heights if practitioners adhere to ethics and are creative, the Managing
Director Man-Mountain and Company Insurance Brokers Limited, Ayodapo Shoderu,
has said.
He disclosed this while delivering an address at the 30th
Anniversary of the company in Lagos.
Shoderu who is also the President of the Nigerian Council
of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB) opined that “the major challenge
confronting practitioners is the dire need for them to play according to rules
at all times and be more creative.
He noted that “if other service providers have made their
products inevitable to the public, the insurance industry which is the carrier
of risks does not have any excuse to allow it to be stampeded out of
existence”.
Tracing the history of the company from its inception, Shoderu
said the vision of the company was to redefine the image of insurance broking
in Nigeria through provision of cutting edge services, noting that the company
had not deviated from the norm since its formation 30 years ago.
He reminisces the teething period of the company when it
was difficult to market insurance services to clients, because of poor
knowledge and bad image of some professionals at the time.
“Having just resigned from Femi Johnson and Co. Limited,
where I held the position of Executive Director. That time, I had to shuttle
from one office to another to persuade clients to undertake insurance and to
utilize the services of an Insurance Broker,” he said.
He however appreciated staff and clients for their
cooperation in building the company stressing that his desire is to make the
company the leading brand in insurance broking services globally. In his goodwill message, the President Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), Fatai Lawal, said Man Mountain and Company Limited had become the pride of the insurance world in Nigeria due to its adherence to ethics, innovativeness and professionalism.
