Court Remands Insurance Marketer For Stealing N140,000

An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Friday remanded a 30-year-old insurance marketer, Theophilus Udunna, at the Ikoyi Prisons, for allegedly stealing N140,000 belonging to his employer’s customers.

Udunna, a staff of AIICO Insurance Plc, residing at 199, Ojo-Igbede Road, Ajangbadi, Lagos State, is facing a one-count charge of stealing.

The Magistrate, Mrs Linda Balogun, ordered the remand of Udunna after he pleaded guilty to the charge.

She adjourned the case to June 23 for a review of facts and sentencing.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Babaje Ishiaku, told the court that the marketer committed the offence between August 2013 and last March at AIICO Insurance Plc, Plot 12, Churchgate St., Victoria Island, Lagos.

He said that the marketer stole N140,000 which was given to him as insurance premium by three customers of the insurance company.

According to Ishiaku, the offence contravenes Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 prescribes three years’ imprisonment for anyone convicted of the offence of stealing. (NAN)
