The Insurance Industry Consultative Committee (IICC) has mandated the Director-Generals of Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) and Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) to liaise with the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), to work out measures for a summit that would provide opportunities for deliberations of the industry’s concerns with legislators and notable Nigerians.

This was reached at the meeting of the committee held recently in Lagos.

A member of the committee told Inspen that the committee Chairman Fatai Lawal and the Director-General of the CIIN Kola Ahmed, had recently met some legislator to brief them of the initiative, adding that the step is taken to bring insurance close to those in authority, abreast them of developments in the industry and also solicit supports to move the sector forward.

Another said the committee is leveraging NAICOM contacts to pursue the initiative through, stressing that the idea is timely as the industry cannot develop effectively without cordial relationship with people that make policies in the nation.

The committee was formed to give a voice to the industry; guarantees a collective medium for dialogue; provides a clearing house for vital industry policies; engenders a firm anchorage for growth agendas; constitutes a powerful group for government relations and platform for resolution of conflicts.
