BUFFALO, N.Y. - (AP) -- A western New York man accused of killing
his fiancee to collect on her life insurance is headed to prison on a
fraud conviction.
U.S. Attorney William Hochul (HOH-kuhl) says it's believed
to be the first time his office has used federal fraud laws to convict a
killer.
A jury found Ronald Epps of Amherst guilty Wednesday of 10
counts, including fraud, arson and weapons charges. He was never
charged with murder.
Epps is accused of shooting Angela Moss in the back of the
head in 2009 after she made him the sole beneficiary of her $100,000
life insurance policy. Authorities say he set his apartment on fire the
following year and collected about $4,000 from an insurance claim.
He faces at least 35 years in prison when he's sentenced Dec. 10.
