I am delighted by the opportunity to address you on the forthcoming Investiture of Lady IsiomaChukwuma as the 47th President of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN).
Preparations for this event are in top gear. This Press Conference is mainly to avail you of the major highlights as well as solicit your co-operation in giving the events due coverage and the required publicity.
THE INVESTITURE
The Investiture of Lady Isioma Chukwuma as the 47th President of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria is scheduled for Tuesday 11th August, 2015 at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos commencing as 1.00pm
The Investiture Ceremony of Lady Chukwuma will be chaired by Chief Ade Ojo, Chairman of both Elizade Motors and Custodian and Allied Insurance Plc.
Lady Isioma Chukwuma will be succeeding Mr. Bola Temowo who has made tremendous success of his tenure especially in his pursuance of a Legacy of Continuity for the progress being made by the Institute.
The theme of Lady Chukwuma’s presidency is: “CONSOLIDATING THE GAINS OF THE INDUSTRY FOR NATIONAL ECONOMIC GROWTH”.
The theme is borne out of the need to consolidate on the gains the Institute has made during the tenures of the Past Presidents of the Institute. The following are some of the means by which Lady Chukwuma’s Presidency aims to achieve the objectives of her theme:
1. Situating the CIIN on the global stage
- Enhancing the Institute’s certificate for global acceptability
2. Upscaling collaboration with CII, UK
- Consolidating the existing collaboration with the CII, UK on cross accreditation of courses and using the CIIN Certificate to apply for fellowship of the CII, UK.
3. Promoting Insurance Awareness by increasing the visibility of Insurance throughpublications in the print medium such that at least 4 or 5 Newspaper houses have a day dedicated to coverage of insurance related news.
- Pay courtesy visits to the Newspaper houses a support them with funds.
4. Follow-up on the recognition to CIIN Certificate by the Head of Service (HOS) of the Federation.
5. Renewed pursuit of Training of Insurance Teachers on a National Level
- Focus on states with the South-south, South East and North Central geo-political zones.
6. Work on achieving wider coverage in the presentation /distribution of the Institute’s sponsored Insurance Textbook for Senior Secondary Schools.
- Greater pursuit of Osun, Delta, Imo, Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Niger, Kogi, Benue, Plateau States to be targeted.
7. Completion Institute’s Exams Syllabus Review
8. Commencement of work in the Institute’s Victoria Island property.
9. Pursuit extending the Institute’s Professionals to Countries in West and East and Central African Sub-regions, - Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Kenya, Uganda, Zimbabwe etc.

Lady Isioma Chukwuma is currently Deputy President of the Institute and has worked closelywith the outgoing President, Mr. Bola Temowo. She has served the Institute in various capacities over the years and has remained steadfast in her commitment to the Institute’s cause since her election into the Institute’s Governing Council in 1999. Lady Chukwuma joined Nigerian Reinsurance Corporation in 1980 and has steadily risen through the ranks till she was appointed Managing Director in 2009.
The following being a brief profile of Lady Isioma Chukwuma will shed more light on the stellar personality of the 47th President of the CIIN
BRIEF PROFILE OF LADY ISIOMA CHUKWUMA
Lady Isioma Chukwuma was born in her home town of Asaba in Oshimili South Local Government Area of Delta State. She attended Our Lady of Fatima Primary School, Surulere, Lagos and Anglican Girls Grammar School, Asaba for both her Primary and Secondary education respectively. She then proceeded to the prestigious University of Ibadan for her Bachelor’s degree and graduated with Honours in 1978. She enrolled for and obtained a Master’s in Public Admin. (MPA), from the University of Lagos in 1985.
Lady Chukwuma qualified as Associate of Chartered Insurance Institute, London in 1990.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Lady Isioma Chukwuma joined Nigeria Reinsurance Corporation as a Graduate Trainee on 2nd January 1980 and worked in virtually all the Technical Departments of the Corporation as follows:
- Marketing/Inwards Department 1980 - 1991
- Accident Department 1991 - 1994
- Motor Department 1994 - 1996
- Client Services Department 1996 - 1999
- Property Department 1999 - 2005
- Overseas Inward Department 2005 to March 18th 2009
Lady Chukwuma was confirmed the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer on the 17th of June 2009, a position she has held till date.
PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lady Isioma Chukwuma has been a Member of the Governing Council of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria since 1999 to date.
- She served as the Treasurer of the Institute in the year 2013/2014. She is currently the Deputy President and Chairman, Governing Board of the College of Insurance and Financial Management.
- She was a past President of the Professional Insurance Ladies Association 2001-2003.
- Past Chairman of the Offices Representatives Committee of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria.
- Past Chairman of the Mandatory Continuous Professional Development (MCPD) Committee of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria.
- Member of the Membership and Professional Standards Committee of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria.
- Member of the Activities Committee of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria.
- Member of the Education Committee of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria.
Lady Isioma Chukwuma has attended various Courses, Seminars and Conferences both locally and internationally. She is an Executive Committee Member of the Federation of Afro- Asian Insurers and Reinsurers (FAIR).
She is a very committed Christian and is the immediate past President of the Ladies Progressive Society of All Saints Anglican Church, Yaba.
In April 2006, she and her husband were Knighted into the Order of St. Christopher.
Lady Isioma is happily married to Barrister (Sir) Sammy Chukwuma.
Hobbies include playing Computer Games, Crossword Puzzles and watching Television.
RELATIONSHIP WITH THE MEDIA
Partnership with the media has continued to be on the upbeat. The Annual Joint Media Retreat, which would be held at an agreed date, would provide a platform for interacting with the media on critical areas of cooperation.
