College of Insurance to start certificate courses in January 2015

The College of Insurance and Financial Management has rolled out the time table for takeoff of its academic programmes and hopes to commence certificate courses by January 2015, Inspen has learnt.


The Rector Dr. (Mrs.) Yeside Abiodun Oyetayo, who disclosed this in an interview, said the school will by September organise foundation and diploma programmes and workshop on pension and annuity; in October induction programme and seminar on actuarial valuation and November workshop on risk management, while certificate courses are billed for January next year.


She noted that the College has a lot to offer and therefore would be pivotal to the achievement of human resources not only in the insurance industry, but the financial sector as a whole, adding that it would make huge contributions to the development of the Nigerian Insurance industry and the economy at large. 


She noted that the college would exploit all available opportunities to raise professionals that will take the insurance and financial sectors to the next level.

She said the college would partner reputable academic institutions within and outside Nigeria to strengthen the industry’s’ man power.  

She said: “We are preparing for the commissioning of the college, hopefully; very soon, we will kick-off with the planned activities. Basically, the main objective of the college is to boost the man power need of the insurance and finance industries in Nigeria; we will be committed to developing programmes that would strengthen the man power needs of the industries.

“We are very sensitive in meeting the needs of the industries and that is why the college will be collaborating with other institutions. Part of our programmes would be partnering institutes abroad in order to meet this man power need. We intend to partner colleges, institutes and universities within and out Nigeria for this purpose. Definitely, the college is up to the task of raising first class professionals.”
