The Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) having successfully adopted a school in Lagos, has called on insurance companies to embrace the trend to enable them deepen awareness about their operations.

Its President Bola Temowo, who said this at the presentation of Insurance text books to the Lagos State Ministry of Education in Lagos yesterday, said Institute is encouraging Insurance Companies to adopt a Secondary or Tertiary Institution in their neighbourhood and support such school with lecturers and equipment.

The Institute as part of its strategy on enhancing insurance education had adopted Herbert Macaulay Junior Secondary School in Ebute-Meta Lagos. The school was provided with one personal Computer, one photocopier, a projector and a printer.

“We are no doubt aware of the challenges regarding the dearth of teachers and lecturers for insurance at both secondary and tertiary levels of education in Nigeria. To tackle this dilemma, the institute has initiated a campaign to encourage insurance professionals to take up teaching positions either on full time or part time basis.

“The Institute is also gearing up to commence training courses for insurance instructors in secondary schools. This is to aid non-insurance graduates e.g. business studies teachers with the skills needed to deliver insurance lectures for senior secondary examinations” Temowo said.
