Nigeria’s first Journal
of Insurance Law – The Ombudsman – Journal of Insurance Law has announced plans
to dedicate its 3rd edition to the celebration of the 80th
birthday ceremony of the guru of insurance Professor Joe Irukwu.
A statement by the publishers
Adegboyega Adepegba, noted that the
firm has written the Irukwu to intimate him of the firm’s resolution.
The letter reads: “It is with a great joy that we appreciate and celebrate
you on the occasion of your 80th Birthday.
We will like to wish
you many more years of meritorious contributions to humanity and to your chosen
and cherished calling which traverse Insurance, Law and Humanism.
Words are not enough
to describe the way we feel as we come to the full realization that you are
already four scores on the surface of the earth, and that as far as we know,
these years have been lived in the service of humanity through dissemination of
knowledge and exemplary leadership which we can say without equivocation are
unparallel in Africa and beyond.
Your views and stand
on the issue of professionalism are well known, and you have stood tall with
all your God given stature and endowments to defend these in all your years in public service.
You are the father of
insurance law in Africa; and you remain a fountain that keeps supplying succor
to those that want to drink from the pool of knowledge.
Our prayer is that providence will keep and sustain you
far beyond these 80 good years, so that we may continue to derive inspiration
from you.
As part of our own
contribution to the celebrations which have been made low keyed, understandably
because of the mood in our dear country, we shall dedicate the 3rd
edition of our Journal – “The Ombudsman – Journal of Insurance Law” to
you and we will have an interview with you and publish a few of your landmark
papers (thoughts) in the special edition. Work has already began on this.
We wish you many more
years of useful contributions to our Nation, while we ask that God grants you
Divine health to enable you enjoy your old age with joy and bliss.
