National African American Insurance Association hosting Columbus career fair

By Evan Weese

The National African American Insurance Association will host a career fair Aug. 9 in Columbus alongside Ohio insurance companies, colleges and universities and industry trade groups.

Insuring Ohio Futures, which has been advocating for greater youth outreach amid a projected shortage of workers, is partnering with the association to bring the event to the Franklin County Jobs and Family Services office in the Northland neighborhood.

The free career fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The industry consortium Insuring Ohio Futures estimates there will be 26,000 jobs available between now and 2020.

"This creates a massive opportunity to have a diverse demographic of insurance professionals which will mirror the customers that we serve," Keita Marville, NAAIA Columbus chapter president, said in a press release.

Bachelor’s degree programs are available at Franklin University, Kent State University and the University of Cincinnati, with more to come. Columbus State Community College added a certificate program last year.
